EXTENDING BODIES
Extending Bodies is a visual anthology investigating the deep-rooted human desire to push the body beyond its limits and capabilities. The publication serves as a repository of references spanning across various disciplines, including medicine, sports, fashion, politics, art, architecture, performance, spirituality, and afterlife.
Examining the methodology inherent in bodies of work such as Artur Jafa’s Apex Grid 2018, Comme des Garçons Ad Campaigns, Batia Suter’s Parallel Encyclopedia 2007, students explored how the de- and reconrextualization of found imagery can serve as a vehicle of communication within the medium of print.
Extending Bodies aims to provide alternative readings by rethinking the contemporary body through archival research and editorial composition.
The publication was produced together with a cohort of 17 students and associate lecturer Elsa Mueller as part of the Editorial Design Seminar at the University of the Arts Berlin during the Summer Semester 2024.
